Cunningham Creek
Cunningham Creek was discovered in the spring of 1861 by a group of miners following Bill Cunningham over the top of Yanks Peak into the area of Round Top Mountain. The discovery claim on Cunningham produced 400 ounces of gold from one bedrock fracture covered by a cement like material. Course nuggets over 3 ounces were common on bedrock. 300 men worked on the creek for several years, but most filtered off to better ground at Barkerville or Antler Creek. Chinese miners reworked the old mines several times on Cunningham, and mining continues on the creek to this day. It is believed that Cunningham Creek has produced 2.5 to 3 million ounces of gold between 1861 and today
